Pruning

Pruning is crucial to your tree's health and longevity. By practicing proper pruning techniques, humans can reap the full benefit that a tree can provide. Unless you absolutely want the tree removed, we strive to use alternative pruning options such as canopy thinning, canopy lifting, and deadwood removal. Mitchell Tree Care will NOT TOP YOUR TREE. Tree topping goes against industry standard and is proven to severely decrease the lifespan of a tree, not to mention it looks awful.

Removal

If you have a tree that is no longer needed or growing too large into a tight spot, we can remove it. When trees grow too close to a structure or lean over a critical/ hazard area, Mitchell Tree Care will use technical climbing techniques and also use specialized rigging set-ups to remove the tree in small pieces, avoiding all contact with existing structures.

Structual Support Systems and Lightning Protection Installation

Tree support systems are used to provide extra support to branches, leads, and even the entire tree. Mitchell Tree Care installs support systems (cables, braces, guys, and props) to help strengthen and extend the life of your tree, and also limit the movement of the tree (reducing the risk of failure). An example of a rod support system that we've installed is shown to the left. This rod was installed at a crotch with an existing crack to reduce the risk of the tree splitting at the junction.

Planting

We love planting trees! Whether we are replacing a removal or adding a tree to your landscape, planting trees is something we look forward to each year. David will even help you choose an ideal tree for your space: taking size, growth rate, site conditions and growth pattern into account. The planting seasons run February through April and October through November.

Risk Assesment

David Mitchell is Tree Risk Assessment Qualified by the International Society of Aboriculture. When climbing is necessary, David ascends into the canopy  to assess the tree's risk of failure. Tree inspections can be performed from the base of the tree in some cases. Risk Assessment is especially important when you have larger, older trees that reach over your house, utility lines, or other structures. If you're concerned about it's age and health, you should have your tree inspected by a certified arborist who understands the science behind trees.

Plant Health Care

Invasive pests and disease have ravaged multiple tree species in our area. In a lot of cases, routine treatments can help protect and can often help your tree overcome current infestations. We address threats by invasive pests and diseases and use techniques that do not involve spraying. David is a West Virginia State licensed pesticide applicator in; category 4a.
